Woodblock Printing Workshop

Discover the Art of Woodblock Printmaking

Explore the hands-on process of traditional woodblock printmaking in this 4-hour beginner-friendly workshop. Learn how an image is transformed from a drawing into a carved wooden block, then printed by hand to create a unique edition of your own artwork.

You’ll be guided through the essential techniques of designing, carving, inking, and printing. Whether you’re completely new to printmaking or looking to explore a new medium, this workshop offers a creative introduction to the tactile and expressive qualities of woodblock printing.

What You'll Learn

During the workshop, you will learn:

  • How to develop and transfer a simple design onto a woodblock

  • Basic woodblock carving techniques and safe tool handling

  • How to prepare and apply ink to your block

  • How to register your paper and create a clean print

  • Hand-printing techniques and pressure control

  • How to experiment with texture, line, and mark-making

  • The basic process of creating a small edition of prints

What You'll Create

You’ll carve your own small woodblock and use it to produce a series of prints to take home. Your finished prints will reflect the marks, textures, and character created through the carving process.

Progress Further

We have a Mokuhanga workshop which is traditional Japanese woodblock technique and uses water based pigments and different thinner paper for printing. The process is different and comes with a different approach. The results are often much softer and you can see the textures and lines from the brush strokes in the print. We highly recommend checking it out.
