Printmaking course for teens / Art class / Afterschool Art Lesson

Give teens the creative toolkit to make bold prints, experiment with different techniques, and learn professional-style processes in a fun, hands-on setting. These printmaking courses are designed for teens and runs for 1 to 1.5 hours per week. View below for specific course lengths.

Over the month, students will explore a variety of printmaking methods including fabric and paper printing, carving-based techniques, and detail-rich methods for making textured, expressive artwork.

Totally suitable for beginners with no experience.

What you’ll learn

Students will experience a mix of the following printmaking techniques (depending on which course(s) they book):

  • Wood Block Print: Wood block print is a relief printmaking technique where an image is carved into a wooden block, ink is applied to the raised surfaces, and then the block is pressed onto paper to transfer the print.
  • Screen Printing (Fabric & Paper): Screen printing is a stencil-based method where ink is pushed through a mesh screen onto fabric or paper to create bright, crisp designs.
  • Reduction Lino Print: Reduction lino print is a relief printmaking method where you carve into one lino block in stages—removing more each round—so each color is printed on top to build a multi-colored, layered image.
  • Etching: Etching is a printmaking process where a metal plate is covered with a protective coating, designs are scratched through it, and then the plate is bitten to create lines that print in ink.
  • Monoprint: Monoprint is a one-of-a-kind printmaking technique where a design is created on a plate and transferred to paper to produce a unique image each time.
