Lithography is a traditional printmaking technique based on the principle that oil and water repel each other. Unlike relief or intaglio printing, the image is created on a flat surface by drawing with greasy materials, which are then chemically processed to attract ink only where the drawing exists.
In this workshop, we use plate lithography, a modern adaptation of the traditional stone process. Lightweight aluminum plates offer the same fundamental principles and expressive drawing qualities as stone lithography while being more accessible and practical for learning.
