Process

  1. Design Prep: The artist draws a design on the linoleum surface. And plans the layers before starting.
  2. Carving: Using special tools, the artist carves away parts of the linoleum that will not hold ink. The areas left raised will form the printed image.
  3. Inking: The carved linoleum block is inked using a roller, ensuring that only the raised areas are covered.
  4. Printing: The block is pressed onto paper. For reduction printing, the artist typically prints in layers, removing more linoleum for each color added.
  5. Layering: Each print requires careful registration to align the layers accurately. The process continues until the desired number of colors and details are achieved.
  6. Tidy up and clean up: Learn how to clean and maintain the printmaking tools.
  7. Pack up: Package your prints to take home!
